Spend Overview

Track your spending automatically, know where every dollar went

Spend Overview pulls every transaction from every connected account (ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank, TSB and more) and sorts it automatically. You read the story; you don't write it.

Auto-categorisation

Auto-categorised, with AI for the weird ones

The obvious transactions sort themselves. Then there are the awkward ones: the merchant with a cryptic name, the one-off from a market stall. AI works out what those were and files them. Income gets the same treatment: salary, side-hustle payments and IRD transactions (tax refunds, provisional tax) are recognised and categorised on arrival.

  • Auto-categorisation across all connected accounts, with AI fallback for the ones rules can't catch
  • IRD income auto-categorisation: refunds and credits filed correctly, not lumped in as "income, misc"
  • Transfer detection: money moving between your own accounts isn't counted as spending, so your totals stay true

Tags, notes, attachments

Your labels on top of our categories

Categories answer "what kind of spend was this?" Tags answer your questions: which spends belong to the side hustle, the rental, the trip you're splitting with friends. Add a note to remember why, attach the receipt or invoice, and it's all there when you need it, or when your accountant does.

  • Tags with central management: rename or merge a tag once, it updates everywhere; apply in bulk
  • Notes and attachments on any transaction: receipts, invoices, "this was Mum's birthday dinner"
  • Filter by bank account when you only want one slice of the picture

Upcoming transactions

The next two weeks, before they hit your account

Spend tracking that only looks backwards tells you off after the fact. The upcoming-transactions view shows the next two weeks of expected bills and payments, so the insurance premium landing Thursday isn't a surprise on Friday. Over-budget indicators tie it back to your budget in real time, and if you want to see further out, Cashflow Forecasting takes the same data 6–12 months ahead.

  • 2-week upcoming-transactions view built from your recurring payments
  • Over-budget indicators show which categories are running hot, mid-cycle
  • Works across every connected account in one view

Export

CSV export, accountant-ready

When tax time comes, export any date range to CSV with categories and tags intact. If you've tagged your side-hustle spending all year, the year-end job is a download, not a weekend.

Accountant-ready export is part of SortMe Pro, along with separate books for a trust, rental or business and the one-click end-of-financial-year pack.

Spend tracking questions, answered

Do I have to categorise transactions myself?
No. Transactions are categorised automatically, with AI handling the ambiguous ones. You can recategorise anything, and SortMe learns from the correction.
Which banks does it work with?
All major NZ banks (ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank, TSB, SBS and more) plus KiwiSaver balances and investment providers. Details on Data Security.
Will transfers between my own accounts show up as spending?
No. Transfer detection recognises money moving between your accounts and keeps it out of your spending totals.
Can I get my data out?
Yes. CSV export covers any date range with categories and tags preserved, and it is a SortMe Pro feature. Your data stays yours either way.
Is this safe?
Bank connections are read-only, so SortMe can never move your money, and everything is protected with bank-grade AES-256 encryption. Full details on Data Security.
